ISDS 3110: Database Processing for Management
Course description: This course teaches how to create a structural and functional managerial databases. BY establishing an understanding of design options and implementation of database management systems in the firm, we were able to practice the skills we gained within laboratory practice. Our final project required each team to create their own database from scratch within the Microsoft Access software system.
Course reflection:
After completing this course, I have been provided with an understanding of the function, structure, and design of databases. By creating a database from scratch, I was able to learn how to best structure databases, like how data should be related over tables, how to choose foreign and primary keys, and how to maintain a balance between ease of use and functionality. Also, after designing a database, I feel I have a much greater understanding of the use and functionality of SQL code and how useful its applications can be.
